Pratap Bhanu Solanki, Ph.D. is a Senior Mechatronics Design Engineer at ASML, with a strong research background in underwater robotics. He completed his Ph.D. in ECE from Michigan State University, where he worked on the design, development, and testing of underwater robotic systems. Pratap's research focused on wireless LED-based optical communication systems, where he proposed and developed multiple alignment control approaches based on extended Kalman Filter and Extremum seeking algorithms. He demonstrated simultaneous alignment and communication using an in-house developed optical communication module mounted on an underwater robot. Pratap's broad area of research interests includes modeling, simulation, and control of autonomous robots, with tangential interests in computer vision, advanced AI, and machine learning algorithms. He is a problem-solver who enjoys brainstorming to find simple solutions to the problems associated with his field of research and the various aspects of life that we encounter in everyday chores. Pratap believes there always exists a simple solution to every problem, which needs proper formulation and requires experience, knowledge, and effort to connect the dots to reach the desired solution. Prior to joining ASML, Pratap has worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Michigan State University, where he is currently pursuing his post Ph.D. research with Professor Xiaobo Tan at Smart Microsystems Lab. He has also worked as a Summer Research Intern at Facebook reality labs (Oculus Research), where he developed, modeled, and simulated an underlying Opto-mechatronic system of the Eye Tracking team and used non-linear optimization techniques for calibrating hardware parameters of the involved system. Pratap completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and his Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Michigan State University. He has a relevant experience of 2.95 years and possesses skills in Research Scientist, Computer Vision, AI, test, and ML.
